
NEW DELHI, JUNE 25: The annual rate of inflation based on the provisional wholesale price index has eased further for the second consecutive week to touch 6.21 per cent for the latest recorded week June 10.
The price index for major group 8216;manufactured products8217; remained static as the price index for 8216;food products8217; group declined by 0.1 per cent with lower prices of grain mill products which fell by 0.1 per cent, Khandsari and Gur and Sugar which dropped by 0.2 per cent while the prices of manufactured salts declined by 2.2 per cent. Prices of edible oils also dropped by 0.4 per cent.
Under the group beverages, tobacco, and tobacco products there was a decline of 0.1 per cent in the case of manufactured bidis, cigarettes, tobacco and zarda.
In the textiles group, cotton textiles witnessed a drop of 0.2 per cent while man-made textiles eased by 0.4 per cent and jute, hemp and mesta textiles showed a decline of 3.1 per cent for the latest recorded week.
On the other hand, price index for 8216;non-food articles8217; rose by 0.4 per cent to stand at 144.2 from the previous week8217;s 143.6 due to higher prices of soyabean which hardened by 11 per cent, raw jute and cotton seed with rose by 3 per cent each, raw silk and fodder rose by 2 per cent each while groundnut seeds rose by one per cent. Prices of sunflower dipped by 5 per cent, copra, gingelly seed and linseed by 3 per cent each while mesta and raw rubber fell by 2 per cent each even as rapeseed and mustard fell by one per cent each.
However, the price index for fuel, power, light and lubricants has shown a rise by 0.5 per cent due to higher prices of furnace oil which has hardened by 14 per cent.
