
January 6: A 137-run partnership for the third wicket between captain Vineet Indulkar and Vishal Tiwrekar helped IES English score an impressive 316 for seven in the allotted 75 overs against Balmohan Vidyamandir on the opening day of the four-day final of the Giles Shield Inter-School cricket tournament, 75-overs each, two innings, sponsored by ThumsUp, at the Parsee Gymkhana today.
At draw of stumps, Balmohan were 59 for three in 14 overs.IES English won the toss and elected to bat. Their openers Sagar Dharankar and 10-year-old Bravesh Shetty put on 73 in 15.3 overs before medium pacer Harshad Rawale bowled Dharankar for 44 in 49 balls with nine fours.
After the addition of 10 runs, Shetty fell, his 29 studded with four hits to the ropes off 50 balls.
Harshad Rawle, bowling medium pace and off-spin, captured three for 83 while Raut and left-arm spinner Dinesh Naik took one each.
Balmohan, began their innings badly by losing their openers before reaching into double figures. The third wicket pair of Harshad Rawale and Sanket Bhaye carried the score from six to 22, when Bhaye was caught by Vishal Tivrekar off Rushikesh Puranik who finished with two for 20.

A fighting century by opener Vincent Albuquerque enabled debutants Varun Shipping score 293 for nine against Dena Bank on the first day of the three-day semi-final on the Times Shield Division B cricket tournament at Matunga.
In the other semi-final at the Karnatak ground, Cross maidan, Union Bank scored 334 for six against Mumbai Port Trust.
Vincent was involved in two useful partnerships, 51 for the opening wicket with Rohit Naidu 27 and 80 with Altaf Shaikh 38 for the third wicket. Vincent8217;s knock of 108 was studded with 15 fours. Anant Tiwari 28 and Umesh Patwal 25 were the other main run-getters.
A 158-run stand between Nilesh Bhosle and Mandeep Khurana for the sixth wicket was instrumental in Union Bank reaching the 300-mark after they were 145 for five at one stage, with Prashant Shetty contributing 65. Bhosle8217;s unbeaten 83 had two sixes and eight fours, while Khurana hit 11 boundaries in his 78.
