Betting racket in Calcutta
CALCUTTA: The city police have unearthed a cricket betting racket following the arrest of four persons 8212; including two bookies 8212; from a city hotel for their alleged involvement in betting yesterday8217;s encounter between Australia and New Zealand of the Coca-Cola Cup cricket tournament at Sharjah.

Deputy Commisioner of Police Detective Department Nazrul Islam told PTI today that the four were nabbed from a hotel in the city last night. More might be arrested in the next few days.

The police raided the hotel following a tip-off and caught the four red-handed while they were playing a clandestine gambling game. A cash of Rs 13,800, cellular phones, TV sets and telephones were also seized from the arrested persons.

Thane to host
MUMBAI: Sixteen men8217;s teams, including seven from outside Maharashtra, and as many women8217;s sides are to take part in the Rs 85,000 All India Kabaddi Tournament to be organised by Shivaji Nagar Kala-Krida Mandal at Thane fromApril 27-30.

The men8217;s and women8217;s winners would receive Rs 15,555 and Rs 11,111 respectively.

Road racing
CHENNAI: The National Road Racing Championship for four wheelers has been reviewed after two years and the first leg of a five-leg series for Esteem Group N and Fissme Maruti single seaters well be held at the international track at Irungattukottai, near here, on April 26.

Twelve entries from different parts of India have been received for the championship, sponsored by JK Tyres.
