
Muzumdar to lead Mumbai
MUMBAI: Middle-order batsman Amol Muzumdar will lead Mumbai in their five-day Ranji Trophy semi-final encounter against Uttar Pradesh commencing at the Wankhede Stadium from April 9.
The 23-year-old lad has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the National champions owing to the absence of school-mates Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, currently performing National duties. It would be the second time that Muzumdar would be in-charge after having successfully led the side against Haryana last season.
The 15-member team released by the Mumbai Cricket Association this evening is as follows: Amol Muzumdar C, Sulakshan Kulkarni VC, Wasim Jaffer, Amit Pagnis, Jatin Paranjpe, Mandar Phadke, Sunil More, Sairaj Bahutule, Paras Mhambrey, Abey Kuruvilla, Nilesh Kulkarni, Rajesh Pawar, Sameer Dighe, Rajesh Sutar amp; Manish Patel.
BCCI meet
MUMBAI: The working committee meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI is to be heldat Delhi on April 13, a day before the scheduled triangular one-day series final at the capital.
Among the items to be discussed at the meeting are the forthcoming triangular one-day tournament between hosts India, Bangladesh and Kenya, scheduled from May 11-24, and the invitation from the Malaysian Cricket Association to play a couple of matches at Kuala Lumpur before the Commonwealth Games in September.
National bridge
KOCHI: The 29th Summer National Bridge Championship will be held here from April 15 to 21.
Addressing a press conference here Kerala Bridge Association president NCJ John informed that in addition to the 25 State teams, Railways, Indian Airlines, Defence, CSIR, Sports Control Board, Delhi, DRDN, Central Revenue Sports Control Board, Calcutta, Petroleum Sports Control Board, Ghaziabad will also compete in the event.
Meghalaya slam 13
GUWAHATI: The 54th Santosh Trophy tournament began today with Meghalaya humiliating Himachal Pradesh 13-1 in the inauguralmatch.
In a well-fought match at Tezpur, Assam defeated Pondicherry by one goal while Maharashtra routed Mizoram by five goals. In a Cluster A match at Silchar, Punjab trounced Mizoram by 3-0. Andhra Pradesh and Orissa were locked in a 1-1 draw in the only match that failed to produce a result.The tournament was inaugurated by Chuni Goswami.
