Riaz, Mishra to join team

NEW DELHI: Centre-half Mohammed Riaz and forward Rajiv Mishra, who were left out of the Pakistan leg due to fitness problems will be joining the team for the Indian leg, the IHF secretary K Jothikumaran informed. 8220;I have been told that they are fit to play now,8221; he said. Coach Vasudevan Baskaran said that the inclusion of the two would give a boost to the Indian side, which was very high on morale after the Pakistan sojourn. 8220;I will try to use them for atleast two games each. We have to see that they are not strained before the World Cup,8221; the coach said.

Meanwhile, all the 18 members of the Indian side have been asked by the IHF to report at the IHF office here on March 15, for a four-day camp prior to the first match of the Indian leg in the Capital slated for March 19.

Archery tourney

JAMSHEDPUR: Top Indian archers would take part in the three-day prize money invitation championship being held here from march 17, along with the 15th Bihar State ArcheryChampionship. All the top ten national teams have been invited for the championship. India is currently ranked 14th in world archery.

About 200 archers would take part in the meet. Archers of repute, including Purnima Mahato, Dola Banerjee, Tira Samanta, Angela Devi, Vesuzolu, Satyadev, Bedkumar, Lalrem Sangma and Limba Ram would participate in the championship.

WB champs

JAMSHEDPUR: West Bengal beat champion Kerala and emerged overall winner in the 9th National Athletic Championship of the deaf securing 258 points. It also clinched the women group team championship trophy scoring 156 points at the end of the meet here today. The team, which was in the fourth position last year, bagged 31 gold, 20 silver and six bronze medals. Kerala earned the second place while Rajasthan was placed third

Kerala retain title

HYDERABAD: Defending champion Kerala retained the Cycle Polo title for the third consecutive time by defeating hosts Andhra Pradesh 19-5 in the final of the 20th Senior NationalCycle Polo Championship that concluded at Lal Bahadur Stadium here today. Delhi claimed the third place by defeating Vidarbha 10-9.

Orissa duo excel

NEW DELHI: The Orissa duo of DN Lenka and BM Behera won the Rama Jain All-India Prize Money Bridge tournament here today. The overnight leaders logged 1096.50 points to snatch the title, while Dr Subir Roy and Ian Concessio Tolani pair finished second . The third position went to Subhash Gupta and SG Aggarwal.
