K-1000 rally
BANGALORE: Twenty-one cars and 54 bikes will be contesting for the prize when the 25th K-1000 rally begins on Thursday.
Some of the top rallyists in the country 8212; K Prasad, Rohitaaz Kumar, Zubin K Patel and RH Vikram, on the bikes, and Sagar Mutthappa, current Nationalchampion Leelakrishnan and thrice national champion Hari Singh in the four-wheelers 8212; are vying for honours.
Mayur makes it
MUMBAI: Mumbai lad Mayur Mehta was declared overall winner in the 12th International Marathon Swimming Competition held in Lake of Zurich Switzerland on Saturday.
The 15-year-old student of Kelkar College also won the 10.4 kms and 20.8 kms race in the boys under-18 class between Zolikon and Zurihorn in a record time of two hours, 30.43 minutes and five hours, 30.45 minutes respectively, a release from the organisers said.
In the junior girls8217; under-18, M Tejashree of Mumbai swam 20.8 kms in six hours, 36.34 minutes while Vishruti Vankani of Rajkot swam a distance of 15.6 kms junior girls under-18 in six hours, 4.54 minutes to finish on top in their respective races.
Sailing Nationals
HYDERBAD: The annual Hyderabad sailing week will be held at the Hussain Sagar Lake from August 29 to September 4 during which the Laser National, the Radial, OK Dinghy, thetwo-man enterprise and the Optimist Class National will be held simultaneously.
During this National, a three-member Indian team would be picked up to take part in the World Championship in laser class of boats, which would be held in Australia in December.

NEW DELHI: The All-India Tennis Association AITA will decide on the issue of the Davis Cup non-playing captain by this year end, India8217;s Davis Cup project director Anil Khanna said.
