Paes-Bjorkman tumble out

Los Angeles: Leander Paes and his Swedish partner Jonas Bjorkman crashed out of the Mercedes Benz Cup ATP Tour tournament here when they lost to Martin Damm of Czech Republic and Adam Pederson of US in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Paes, world’s top ranked doubles player, and Bjorkman went down to the Czech-American combination in a hard-fought three set match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Sahara Cup? No

NEW DELHI: Sahara India, which backed out from hosting the Indo-Pak cricket tournament at Toronto this September in the wake of the Kargil conflict, said the company had no second thoughts on the decision. “We are amazed at Mr (Jagmohan) Dalmiya’s comments on Sahara,” chairman Subrata Roy said referring to July 29 newspaper reports citing Dalmiya as saying that Sahara went out of turn by announcing cancellation of the event.

Kapil vs Border

CAB plans academy

Calcutta: Jagmohan Dalmiya was unanimously re-elected president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at its Annual General Meeting here last night. The CAB also unveiled plans of setting up a residential cricket academy and a tentative budget of Rs five crore was approved for the project.

Polo jrs in Bogota

NEW DELHI: Two junior polo players, Simran Singh Shergill and Yogeshwar Singh, will represent India in the Junior (U-16) International tournament to be organised by Federation International De Polo III at Bagota, Colombia from August 4. The two players Left for Bagota today, and will team up with two Colombian players, who will also provide them the horses, in the four-day event.
