Fourth title for Thakur

JALGAON: Second seed B S Thakur of Pune won the men8217;s event in the State Ranking table tennis tournament for the fourth successive year here yesterday while top ranked Mamta Prabhu of Thane claimed the women8217;s singles title.

In the finals, Thakur defeated fourth seed Nachiket Chawathe of Mumbai suburbs 21-16, 21-14, 17-21, 21-14. In women8217;s finals, Mamta got beat Shradda Shastri of Pune 21-19, 18-21, 23-21, 21-18.

Players8217; refusal

BANGALORE: Seven top snooker players of the country have informed the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India BSFL that they would not play in international tournaments unless the Federation advanced 60 per cent of the cost involved. In a communication to the BSFI, the players have indicated that if the government cleared the players on a 8220;no cost to government basis8221; they would not be prepared to play unless the Federation paid the airfare atleast.

The signatories to the letter were India number one Devendra Joshi, AshokShandilya number two, Alok Kumar, Dharminder Lilly, Yasin Merchant, Rafath Habib and Manan Chandra.
