Jeev misses the cut by a stroke

NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh, who hit a fine one-under par 71 on the opening day, failed to maintain form, and narrowly missed the cut at the British Masters yesterday.

The 27-year-old Chandigarh golfer, the only player from the subcontinent playing on the European PGA Tour, carded a three-over 75 in the second round yesterday at the Forest of Arden Course, Coventry, Worcestershire for a two round score of two-under par 146.

Jeev missed the cut by a stroke, according to information received here today.

Ghei leader

CHENNAI: On a day when professionals played to safety for improving on their positiions in the penultimate round of the four-round Hindu Golf Championship, Delhi8217;s Gaurav Ghei tightened his grip to remain the leader despite a one-under card today to aggregate 12-under 204 for 54 holes at the Cosmopolitan Links here.

Ghei, seeking his second major title having won the Wills Open Southern India in Bangalore last month, has a four strokeadvantage going into the final round tomorrow over second placed Vijay Kumar of Lucknow, the highest prize money winner of the Indian circuit last year.

Digvijay third

CHENNAI: India8217;s Digvijay Singh won the bronze, finishing joint third along with Sri Lankan, A Rohana, in the 51st Singapore Open golf championship which ended yesterday.

According to a communication received by Dilip Thomas, national selection committee chairman of the Indian Golf Union here, in the four-round tournament which was eventually won by Thailand8217;s Thogchai Jaidee with a total of 284, a four under par score for four rounds. Digvijay carded a two-over 74 to tally 288 for 72 holes. Rohana, who was behind Jaidee, fell behind to the third spot and Philippine8217;s Gerald Rosales finished second.

Dahiya to lead

NEW DELHI: Two wicketkeepers will be leading Delhi8217;s senior cricket teams this season. While wicketkeeper-batsman Vijay Dahiya of Indian Airlines has been named captain of the Delhi Ranji Trophy squad,Bhupinder Singh, who made his debut in One-day games last season, will lead the Delhi team in the Cooch Behar Trophy under-19.

The decisions were taken unanimously at a meeting of the senior and under-19 selection committees here yesterday. The names of the Ranji probables will be named on Wednesday September 17, according to Sunil Dev.
