
Krishnan to head junior programme
NEW DELHI: Davis Cupper Ramanathan Krishnan has been appointed chairman of the All-India Tennis Association AITA junior development programme.
According to an AITA release here today, Krishnan was offered the post of chairman by the Association and the former tennis star accepted the post.
As per the programme, the AITA will give a grant of Rs 1.25 lakh to each state association for grass root-level training, selection of 25 children for intensive coaching at the five selected centres. Selecting and sending junior teams to tournaments abroad and conduction of camps.
Pre-Olympic meet
BANGALORE: The All-India Football Federation AIFF, which has been allotted pre-Olympic tournament, will stage it here.
quot;With the active cooperation of the Karnataka government, we will hold the tournament in Bangalore,quot; AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said while speaking at the inauguration of 31st Asian Youth football qualifying championship Group 6 heretoday. Besides India, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Korea are expected to take part in the championship to be held later this year or in March next.
Kalyani Cup
MUMBAI: The Kalyani Black Label Cup 1998 will commence on August 23 with the play-off match between Air-India and PSEB. The pre-quarterfinals will be played on August 24 between Salgaocar and SBT while the quarter-finals will be between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, a Wifa release said.
Srinath to miss
BANGALORE: Javagal Srinath, B K Venkatesh Prasad and several other leading players from south India will be missing from action in the fourth KSCA Diamond Jubilee All-India Invitation tournament for Canara Bank Cup beginning here tomorrow.
