Award for Milkha
CHANDIGARH:
`Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh has been selected by the The Sportstar for the `Legend of Sports Award’. Associate Editor (Sports) S Krishnan in a message to the former Indian ace sprinter, said “I take the pleasure of inviting you to the annual Legend of Sports Award function in Chennai on August 23.”

“Knowing your association with The Sport and Pastime and The Hindu, I would urge you take this opportunity to be with us on August 23,” said Krishnan. The function is organised by The Sportstar to felicitate outstanding sportspersons of the year.

Milkha Singh will receive a cash award of Rs one lakh and a citation. The organisers would also take care of Milkha’s travel to and fro from Chandigarh to Chennai and accommodation in Chennai.

Milkha Singh, the ace Indian sprinter and hero of the 1960 Rome Olympics where he broke the Olympic and World record in 400 meters, is being honoured from time to time by other states and outstation organisationsbut his own state has `virtually ignored’ him.

Rovers Cup
NEW DELHI:
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced football calender for the coming season which will kick off with Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup Tournament in Gangtok.

The prestigious Durand Cup will be played from October 19 to 31 and will be followed by DCM Trophy scheduled from November 1 to 11, AIFF release said here.

Schedule:
Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup: October 2-13.
Bordoloi Trophy: October 11-22.
Durand Cup: October 19-31. DCM Trophy: November 1-11.
IFA Shield: November 7-20. Rovers Cup: November 20-December 3.
