
Waugh auction nets 11 lakh
CALCUTTA: The auction of memorabilia at the Foster a Child8217;dinner, hosted by Australian cricketer Steve Waugh fetched a whooping Rs 11 lakh yesterday. The bat autographed by Sir Don Bradman alone went for Rs 5 lakh. The bidding for the bat started at Rs 25,000 with Dr Vece Paes among the bidders on behalf of Calcutta Cricket and Football Club.
The bat finally went to the TIL limited chairman who outbid the rest by a big margin. Steve Waugh8217;s autographed bat fetched Rs 50,000. Among other items auctioned were a bat autographed by the Australian side and a ball containing signatures of Shane Warne and the Waugh brothers.
Cricket tour
CHANDIGARH: Indian school cricket team under-15 will tour England next month to play three three-day matches and as many One-dayers, School Games Federation of India Secretary General, BD Gandhi said here.
India, which won the inaugural World School Cricket Cup by defeating Pakistan in 1996, in England where 10 teams took part,will be making its first trip abroad this year.
