
Mumbai team win kho-kho tournament
JALGAON: Sangli8217;s Samrat Krida Mandal and Nasik8217;s Rachana Sports Club lifted the first Municipal Council Chairman8217;s Cup for kabaddi in the men8217;s and women8217;s section respectively.
In kho-kho, Vidyarthi Krida Kendra of Mumbai and Adarsh Vidya Mandir of Kasar Vadvali, Thane, emerged champions in men8217;s and women8217;s section respectively.
Samir Hadkar of Vidyarthi Krida Sangh, Mumbai, and Kirti Mhatre of Adarsh, Thane, were declared best all rounders in kho-kho in the men8217;s and women8217;s section respectively.
Stadia sponsorship
BANGALORE: Negotiations are on with Bajaj Mukand Steel and BPL for infrastructure sponsorship8217; of the two indoor stadia in the city, being constructed for the Videocon fourth National Games to be held here and in Mysore from May 31 to June 11.
State sports minister Ajay Kumar Sarnaik told reporters today that BPL have offered Rs six crores for the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium to be named after the company while Bajaj Mukand have bid Rs four crores for the stadium at Koramangala.
8220;Negotiations are still on as we have asked Rs eight crores from BPL and Rs six crores from Bajaj Mukand,8221; the minister said.
Indian boys fifth
NEW DELHI: Indian boys finished fifth and the girls were placed tenth in the just concluded NEC World Youth Cup tennis Asia-Oceania qualifying round at Hiroshima Japan.
According to information received here by the All India Tennis Association AITA in the playoff for the fifth place, the boys team put up an excellent display to blank Indonesia 3-0. However, India failed to quality for the World Cup as first four team only made it to the main dran.
New indoor stadium
SILIGURI: An indoor stadium of world standard, first of its kind in the country, would be offered to sports lovers of this region here shortly, West Bengal PWD Minister, Kshiti Goswami said.
Mr Goswami told newsmen that the first phase of this Rs six crore-stadium would be completed by January next.
Sait appointed
CHENNAI: Former Olympian Muneer Sait, has been appointed the tournament director of the 58th Punjab amp; Sindh Bank Senior National Hockey Championship to begin at Bangalore on May 14.
Announcing this here, Indian Hockey Federation secretary K Jyothikumaran said Muneer Sait and he would assess the situation on the laying of the polygrass surface at the Akkithimmanahalli Stadium in the city.
