Duckworth-Lewis rule for domestic one-dayers

MUMBAI: The Duckworth-Lewis rule for rain-curtailed matches will be used in all domestic limited overs tournaments as per a decision taken by the cricket board. The rule will be used in the domestic limited overs championships like Deodhar, Wills and Challenger and in the zonal Ranji one-day league, its executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar announced here today. “The matter was discussed at the last umpires seminar conducted in Bangalore prior to the commencement of the domestic season,” Diwadkar added.

Laghate to lead

PUNE: Kapil Laghate has been named captain of the Maharashtra team which will take on Mumbai in it’s Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19) cricket tournament opener at Wankhede Stadium from October 23 to 25.

Saini named coach

NEW DELHI: Veteran Joginder Singh Saini was today renamed chief national senior athletic coach in place of Bahadur Singh. AAFI secretary Lalit Bhanot said here today that Saini’s recall was necessitated owing to Bahadur Singh’s ill-health. Bhanot said as Bahadur Singh who has undergone an open heart surgery is not in a position to resume his duties till he is fully recovered the AAFI decided to nominate JS Bhatia as chief coach. However, Bhatia expressed his inability to take over the charge as the chief coach and the AAFI was left with a little choice but to bring back Saini.

Bhanot said Saini will continue in this position till Bahadur Singh is in a position to resume his duties.

AIFF camp

CALCUTTA: The All India Football Federation has selected 26 players for the training camp organised for the Indian team before they take part in the Asian Cup at Abu Dhabi. AIFF secretary KN Mour said in a statement here today that all the players had been directed toreport to the national team coach Sukhvinder Singh at NIS, Patiala by October 26.

Mumbai lose

MARGAO: Hosts Goa varsity thrashed Devi Ahilya 5-0 to keep their hopes alive for the title in the West Zone qualifying league match at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here today.

In another match played at Navelim, Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) got the better of MumbaiUniversity by 2-0 goals to head the table with four points from two matches.
