
AIFF break TV tie-up
NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has terminated its agreement with Star Sports for telecast of football matches played in India, due to the channel "not fulfilling its contractual obligations," AIFF president Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said here today. Dasmunshi said the tie-up has been terminated as the channel has not fulfilled its obligation to telecast live "sizeable" number of Philips League matches.

NEW DELHI: Doordarshan will telecast live the tri-nation Independence Cup cricket tournament to be played in Bangladesh from tomorrow. All the matches will be aired live on Doordarshan from 8.10 a.m. an official release said here today. The national broadcaster will also telecast highlights of the matches on respective days.

BANGALORE: Local lad Arjun Vasanth of the Embassy International Riding School claimed the honours in the sub-junior hacks event of the junior National equestrian meet underway at the Madras Engineering Group and Centre parade grounds here on Friday. Dafedar Mehoob Khan of 61st Cavalry rode Pharoah to victory in the hunter trials open category. Dafedar Bhoom Singh of the National Defence Academy astride Pentire finished a shade behind while Dev Lahiri, riding Raphae stood third.
Vishal advances
CALCUTTA: Vishal Patel of Gujarat entered the semi-final of the National Junior Snooker Championships at the Bengal Rowing Club here today. He was hardly troubled in his three frames to one victory over Delhi’s R Thukral Balsora defeated Punjab’s V Arora 3-0 in the pre-quarter-final, only to lose to Delhi’s Siddhharth Anand in the quarter-finals 1-3. Top seed Manan Chandra of Delhi and West Bengal’s Philip Crizzle also entered the semi-final stage, to be played on league basis.
Pratima loses
NEW DELHI: Pratima Sayal of Delhi lost to top-seed Maouma Das of Bengal 17-21, 11-21 in the sub-junior girls quarterfinals in the 59th Sub-junior National Table Tennis Championships in Ajmer, according to reports reaching here. Nandita Saha (WB), Mallika Parekh (Mah) and Sushma Roy (WB) also reached the semi-finals. In sub-junior boys quarterfinals, Ranbir Das, Shubhajit Saha, V Chandrachud and Saurav Chakraborty also advanced.
Hari leads
BIKANER: Former world under-10 champion P Harikrishna of Andhra Pradesh continued his reign with five points at close of round five in the 23rd National sub-junior chess championship. Harikrishna defeated top seed RR Laxman in 22 moves. In other matches, MR Venkatesh of Tamil Nadu (4.5 points), won over Vivek Anand of Bihar.
