BRISBANE: Pakistan were 50-2 after leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed 4-103 helped bowl out Queensland for 274 in their first innings on the opening day of their four-day cricket match. Queensland were bouyed by 78 from Andrew Symonds and 70 by Jimmy Maher.

Tyson escapes
LAS VEGAS: Mike Tyson escaped punishment from Nevada boxing authorities and will receive his 8.7 million purse from his abbreviated bout with Orlin Norris.
However, Tyson did not escape some harsh words. One member of the Nevada State Athletic Commission suggested he fight elsewhere.
Schlager in final
ZHONGSHAN: Austrian Werner Schlager and Vladimir Samsonov Belarus reached the final of the 1999 World Cup men8217;s table tennis.
In the semis, World No 1 Samsonov beat Zoran Primorac Czech 21-19, 24-22,16-21, 21-7 while Schlager trounced Swede Jorgen Persson 21-15, 22-20, 21-10.
Schumacher shines
SUZUKA: Ferrari8217;s Michael Schumacher scorched to pole position in the Japanese GP today but McLaren8217;s Mika Hakkinen is well-placed in the battle for the Formula One world title.
Schumacher, in an action-packed qualification session of the Suzuka circuit, clocked 1:37.470 seconds, 0.350 seconds ahead of Hakkinen, who booked his place on the front row of the starting grid for tomorrow8217;s showdown with a second-fastest time of 1:37.820.
Eddie Irvine, will have to start from the third row in the title duel after posting a fifth-fastest time of 1:38.975.
Ancheri to lead
KOCHI: India skipper Jo Paul Anchery will lead Hi-Power FC Kochin in the forthcoming domestic football season.
Mohun Bagan8217;s loss and FC8217;s gain this year, Ancheri was voted the best player in the Independence Cup held in Qatar in 1994. Jo, as he is popularly known, was the best player in the country during 1994-95. He hasbeen donning India colours since 1994.
Hi-Power FC Kochin will start the season with Rovers Cup starting in Mumbai on November 3. The team, grouped alongwith Churchill Brothers, Mahindras and BMFC, will play their first match on November 5.
