PUNE, Nov 12: Leader of the opposition in the State Assembly and former chief minister Narayan Rane today severely criticised the Congress-led Democratic Front government charging that it was bent on halting all developmental works initiated by his government.
Speaking to newspersons on the eve of the two-day workshop for the newly elected MLAs and MPs of the party at a resort on the city outskirts from tomorrow, Rane assailed the government saying, 8220;it is only busy in allotment of residential accommodations, office cabins, and other facilities instead of getting down to serious work.8221;
Rane will inaugurate the workshop while party supremo Bal Thackeray will address the party8217;s elected representatives at the valedictory session on Sunday.
8220;It seems that there is no government at all; absolutely no work has taken place in the one-month period since the government assumed charge,8221; Rane quipped adding that the Congress and the NCP have come together only to grab power. 8220;We cannot expect any work from the present government as it is almost the same Congress government of the past,8221; Rane said.
The government has charged that the State coffers are empty, but then why have a jumbo-size ministry, he questioned. In a sarcastic remark, he said: 8220;We built 55 flyovers, but the present government just made 55 ministers.8221; He also said that it is NCP president Sharad Pawar who takes all the decisions of the present government.
The two-day workshop, he said, has been organised to train the newly elected members to collectively work as a responsible opposition party. As part of the workshop training, a mock session of the Assembly will be held on Sunday.
