
Clean sweep by Kore panel
Kolhapur: The ruling Kore faction today swept the five-yearly polls for the board of directors of the late Tatyasaheb Kore cooperative sugar factory. The Kore panel won all the 21 seats.
About 91 per cent electorate had exercised their franchise on Wednesday in the elections.
The ruling panel lead by Vinay Kore won the elections by a margin of around 15000 votes over rival Rayat panel of Congress MLA Yashwant Eknath Patil. Chief election officer, Dr Sanjay Radkar announced the election results for an anxious mob on the factory premises, this afternoon.
Vinay Kore won the highest 15,145 votes in the A class members group while another candidate of his panel Dr J C Patil won all the 66 votes in his group. A P Patil had already been announced winner uncontested from the institutions group. Among the other winners are factory chairperson Savitriakka Kore and vice-president Bajirao Patil.
New fire tender for AMC
Ahmednagar: The Ahmednagar Municipal Council fire brigade crew today received a shot in arm with the induction of a fire tender with sophisticated fire-fighting equipment.
The Rs 14 lakh fire tender has 4500 litre capacity water tank, water-cum-foam monitor and pump sets to lift additional water. The new fire tender can spray water at required pressure up to fifth floor. Besides it is attached with a powerful focus light and amplifier system. The new vehicle was formally commissioned to the civic fire brigade crew in presence of Municipal Council president Lata Lodha, her deputy Liyakat Shaikh and chief officer Ramesh Mavasi, this morning. The crew also gave a demonstration of the strengths of the new vehicle to the dignitaries.
The new vehicle has been a most awaited addition to the civic fire brigade which was reduced to a water ferrying crew. One more similar vehicle would be added to the civic crew soon, Lodha said.
Property tax
The Pune Municipal Corporation PMC recovered Rs 14.31 lakh as PROPERTY TAX arrears from a total of 42 defaulters including the Directorate of Social Welfare and its own zonal office at Bhawani Peth. The recovery was part of the drive launched by Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia.
