Safai workers union to hold gate meeting
A gate meeting will be organised by Sector 26 Safai Mazdoor Union to discuss the grant of pay-scale to the market committee staff. According to a press release, the marketing board had earlier assured a delegation regarding the implementation of their long-pending demands.

Electricity staff meets CE
A deputation of UT Electricity Association today met the Chief Engineer in regard to the filling up of vacant posts through promotions. According to union general secretary V.K. Tripathi, the Chief Engineer heard their demands and agreed to fill up the post by promotion, not through direct appointment.

Course in yoga from today
An advanced course in Ananda Yoga multi-dimensional cults consisting of Ashtang Yoga is being arranged by Ananda Yoga society at the Baba Balaknath Mandir, Sector 29. The course, beginning tomorrow will continue till June 30. Two sessions will be organised, one from 5.30 to 7.00 a.m. and the other from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m.

GGDSD students bag first four positions in B.Com III
The first four positions in the city in B.Com III have been bagged by students of GGDSD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh. In a press statement, Dr A.C.Vaid, principal of the college, said Kajal Marwah stood first in Chandigarh, and second in the university. Similarly, Suveena Garg stood second in the city and fourth in PU. According to Dr Vaid, the college pass percentage is 30 per cent higher than the university results.

Folk dances presented
Students of Ghoomer Academy presented a special programme of folk dances to mark the conclusion of the academy’s 15-day workshop. More than 25 young dancers performed giddha, bhangra, dhola, jhoomer and, in the final came together in a ballet rendition of Heer-Ranjha with Anmol Verma in the role of Kaidho.

Minor fire in Sec 36 power house
A minor fire broke out in a power house near Sector 36 Guru Nanak Public School early in the morning today. According to Chief Fire Officer Darshan Singh, two fire tenders brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. Electric short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.

RJD flays transfers
The transfer of certain officials from the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh has been condemned by Rashtriya Janata Dal. According to a press release, the party members have also demanded UT cadre for the officers in the corporation.

CTTC lashes out at electricity dept
The members of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee have criticised the Electricity Department for its "failure to maintain regular power supply". According to a press release, several sectors remained without electricity for hours together, causing inconvenience to the residents. In another press release, the residents of Sector 20-B also resented the frequent power cuts in their area.Correction
The name of the secretary of Central Council of Indian Medicine was inadvertently mentioned as S.K. Thakur in a news item yesterday. The secretary of CCIM is P.R. Sharma, while Thakur is the officiating principal of the college.
