
Met Department to celebrate Science Day on Feb 28
Indian Meteorological Department will be celebrating National Science Day on February 28 with its theme quot;Harnessing Information Technologyquot;. On this day, the local office of Meteorological Centre SCO 2455-56, Sector 22, will be kept open to the general public.
Various events including an exhibition, poster making, quiz, debate, paper reading, debates and lectures will form a part of the three-day celebrations of the National Science Day from February 26, being organised by the Department of Biotechnology, PU, a press release issued by the department chairman Prof R.C. Sobti said.
Police Duty Meet concludes today
A five-day All India Police Duty Meet being held by Indo Tibetan Border Police Force will conclude tomorrow. Contingents of all states and CPUs are participating in the meet.
Dr Grover8217;s book released
quot;You and Your Healthy Heart, It is not worth dying forquot; by Dr Anil Grover, Associate Professor of cardiology at PGI, was released by former director of PGI Prof I.C. Pathak here today. The book deals with the problem of coronary heart disease which affects approximately 5 million of the country8217;s population.
43 units of blood collected at camp
quot;To promote voluntary blood donation movement, at least one blood donation camp should be held by every department in a year.quot; This was stated by Dr A.S. Chhatwal, Director, Food and Supplies, while inaugurating a blood donation camp today. A total of 43 persons donated blood at the camp which was organised in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab state branch.

Baba Sheikh Farid Blood Donation Society organised a camp here on Monday, where 100 units of blood was collected. The camp was organised on the mark the tercentenary celebrations of the birth of Khalsa. According to Balwant Singh, press secretary, the people were also made aware regarding eye donation. On the occasion, Punjab Public Relations Minister S.S. Sekhawan honoured Jaswant Kaur, president of the society, for her social work.

The Punjabi Literary Society of the Government College, Sector 46, organised a talk by Punjabi poet and novelist Ram Sarup Ankhi8217; on quot;inculcating reading habits in studentsquot; today. Ankhi expressed concern over the decline in reading habits among both teachers and students and called upon them to expand their literary horizon over and above the syllabi.

One-day workshop for students leaders was organised at the PU by the Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, PU, and the Population Education Resource Centre, University of Jammu, a press release issued by Ajaib Singh, Director of the department said.
48-hr fast by Arya, Gautam
All India Federation of University Teachers Association AIFUTA president Prof P.P. Arya, and general secretary Dr Satya P. Gautam, in a release issued here today have condemned the quot;anti-academic characterquot; of the Punjab Government notification for pay-revision of university teachers in Punjab and Chandigarh. The two will observe a 48-hour fast on March 4 and 5 on the campus while the presidents and secretaries of the university teachers associations will observe 24-hour hunger strikes on their respective campuses, the release said.
