Vasco rally

MARGAO: Vasco, reduced to 10 men late in the first half, fought back superbly in the second half to hold Dempo to a 2-2 draw in the second edition of the professional league at the Nehru Stadium.

Dempo, who led 1-0 in the first half, scored through Melwyn Rodrigues seventh minute and substitute Socorino Silveira. Vasco restored parity through Jude Odega 82nd minute and Orlando Viegas injury time.

AAFI circuit

NEW DELHI: Top Indian athletes will enter action in the National Circuit meet to be held in Mumbai on October 7. About 81 men and 61 women will take part in the one-day meet to be held at Priyadarshini Park, an Amateur Athletic Federation of India release said.

Mahindras boost

MUMBAI: The Mahindra Champion Golfer Of The Year will be richer following the increase in the prize money from Rs 5.76 lakhs to Rs 7 lakhs for the period 1999-2000.

As per the agreement signed between Mahindra amp; Mahindra and Professional Golfers8217; Association of India PGAI, theprize money will be increased to 8.5 lakhs for the period 2000-2001 and Rs 10 lakhs for 2001-2002. The Rookie Of The Year will get Rs 1 lakh.

Judith-Varsha final

MUMBAI: Varsha Majumdar and Judith Walia today entered the final of the CCI all-India ladies invitational snooker tournament. Varsha defeated Anuja Thakur 4-0, while Judith prevailed over Neeta Sanghavi 4-3.
