A flawless front nine 8212; studded with four birdies 8212; helped Arjun Atwal survive a late slide and sign off a commendable tied fourth in the 500,000 Henrico County Open on the Nationwide Tour here.
The Orlando-based golfer, who won Asian tour8217;s Maybank Malaysian Open in March, turned in a four-under 68 to chalk up a four-day total of 12-under 276. Atwal, who is trying to earn back his US PGA Tour card, sank in an eagle, five birdies against three bogeys to finish off a solid campaign.
Atwal sank the first of his five birdies on the second before picking up three more strokes on the second, fourth and seventh to make the turn four-under. He struck another birdie on the 10th before hitting a rough patch, dropping shots on the 12th, 14th and the 17th. However, an eagle on the 15th meant that the sudden slide did not hurt him much.
Meanwhile, Greg Chalmers became the fifth Australian winner in eight Nationwide Tour events this season, beating Norway8217;s Henrik Bjornstad with a bogey on the second hole of a playoff. Chalmers three-putted for bogey from 75 feet on the second extra hole to edge Bjornstad, who pulled his tee shot on the par 3 into the water and missed an 8-foot putt.
