IIIT-A to host conclave of Nobel laureates

The Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad IIIT-A is all set to create history by hosting Asia8217;s first ever science conclave featuring Nobel laureates at its Jhalwa premises from December 15 to 21.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad IIIT-A is all set to create history by hosting Asia8217;s first ever science conclave featuring Nobel laureates at its Jhalwa premises from December 15 to 21.

Around 10 Nobel laureates will participate in the conclave, organised with the support of the Union ministries of human resource development and science and technology.

With an aim to give a boost to scientific education, research and development, nearly 1,300 science students pursuing bachelor and master degrees and young researchers will participate in the conclave. Beside, 600 students who had recently cleared their high school examination will also take part in the programme.

Dr M D Tiwari, Director of IIIT-A, said: 8220;For the first time in Indian and Asian history, Nobel laureates, leaders, policymakers, research scholars and students will participate in a conclave to discuss emerging trends in scientific research.8221; Drawing inspiration from the Lindau Nobel Laureates8217; Meeting in Germany, the week-long conclave will see a series of lectures followed by interactions between the students and the dignitaries.

8220;The IIIT-A administration has permitted the Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU and Consortium for Educational Communication CEC of the University Grants Commission to record the event,8221; he added. The proceedings will be used to develop e-content to be broadcasted by the CEC through its 24-hour channel 8220;Vyas8221; and by IGNOU through its educational portal, Tiwari said.

The Nobel laureates participating in the conclave include Martin Lewis Perl Physics 1995, Jerome Isaac Friedman Physics 1990, Robert C. Richardson Physics 1996, Prof Tannuodji, Professor Slavnov, Professor Douguls D Osheroff and Professor Avram Harshko.

Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will formally inaugurate the conclave on December 16. Those participating in the conclave include Governor of Haryana Dr A R Kidwai and Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibbal.
