After a three-and-a-half month delay following the Assembly elections, controversy and much parley, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh added six more ministers to complete the 12 slots fixed for the state.

All six MLAs 8212; Y Erabot, N Loken Singh, L Jayanta, K Ranjit Singh, N Biren Singh and D D Thaisii 8212; sworn in on Wednesday at the Raj Bhavan here are from the Congress, quashing speculation that berths would be allotted to the coalition partners 8212; the CPI and the RJD.

Speaking to the media after the swearing-in ceremony, Ibobi said the distribution of berths could not be done district-wise as declared earlier, but the final list of ministers had been finalised after much debate and discussion with the Congress Legislative Party and the party high command in New Delhi. For much of this month, the CM has been camping in New Delhi along with senior ministers and returned only on Monday.

While the CPI already has one berth in the Cabinet in Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat, who was among the first lot of six MLAs to be inducted into the ministry on May 9, the RJD has missed the boat despite party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav reportedly requesting Congress President Sonia Gandhi to name an RJD MLA in the final expansion. Ibobi said it was too early to say if there would be a mid-term reshuffle. 8220;We8217;ll be distributing the portfolios for the new ministers and let8217;s see how we can accommodate the RJD,8221; the CM said.
