Vijayawada, July 2: International Badminton Federation IBF, in its annual generalbody meeting held recently at Hong Kong, revised certain laws which will come to effect from August 1, 1998. 8220;The changes in setting and intervals are significant,8221; said Badminton Association of India joint secretary Punnaiah Chowdhary here on Thursday.

From August 1 onwards, setting will only be permitted when the score reaches 14-all 10-all in ladies8217; singles. The choice will be either to continue the game to 15 points 11 in ladies8217; singles or to set the game to 17 points 13 in ladies8217; singles. If players choose to set, the score is no longer called as quot;love-allquot;; instead the score continues to be called to 17 or 13 as appropriate.

There will be an interval of 90 seconds between the first and second games, and not exceeding five minutes between the second and third.

The IBF has approved coaching during both intervals. Players will not be allowed to leave the court during the 90 seconds interval without theumpire8217;s permission. However, the law that allows players to leave the court during the five minutes interval is unchanged.

IBF has also modified the division of prizes in all World Grand Prix events. With effect from October 1998, 23.2 per cent is allotted to men8217;s singles; 17.4 per cent to women8217;s singles; 21.6 per cent to men8217;s doubles; 18.9 per cent to women8217;s doubles; 18.9 per cent to mixed doubles.

Regarding advertising on players8217; clothing, the IBF has approved appearance of adverts on five locations 8211; left sleeve, right sleeve, left collar, right collar, front of shirt, with immediate effect. Each advert must be 20 square centimeters or less and there must be no more than three in total and only one per location.

The IBF has also approved appearance of two adverts on each sock and each shoe, provided each advert is 20 square centimeters or less.
