Koneru Humpy, first woman from India to achieve the men8217;s Grandmaster title, said here today that she was very happy over FIDE confirming her GM in its recent meeting at Moscow.

Humpy said: 8220;FIDE8217;S decision has inspired me do well in future.8221;

8220;I would like to thank everyone who helped me to get this GM title including my sponsors bank of Baroda, Koya, and the Andhra Pradesh government for encouraging me well and finally FIDE,8221; she added. Speaking about her future plans, Humpy said: 8220;I am preparing seriously for second chess World Cup to be held at Hyderabad from October 9 to 20. I am practicing six hours daily and studying new openings.8221; The 15-year-old became the seventh Grandmaster in India. Others being Viswanathan Anand, Dibyendu Barua, Praveen Thipsay, K Sasikiran, Abhijit Kunte and Pendyala Harikrishna.

Humpy achieved her GM title at the age of 15 years, one month, 27 days to became the youngest Grandmaster of India.

Humpy, who is 13 among seeded women players with ELO rating of 2473, had won the men8217;s GM first norm in the Hotel Lipa Grandmasters tournament Hungary-2001, the second in the Third Saturday Grandmasters tournament Belgrade-2001, and the third and final norm in Elekes Memorial Grandmasters tournament Hungary-2002.
