VIVEK PAUL
PARTNER, TEXAS PACIFIC GROUP
My moment came when I left to study in the US. I had no funds, and I had opted to go for an MBA where financial aid was rare. From that point on, I knew I had to make it on my own.

It was both scary and thrilling8212;it meant working harder, living on a meal a day, battling uncertainty. Empowerment meant I quickly learnt to trust my judgment.

Empowerment is about having choices, and an empowered India must grant that to every citizen. I have been fortunate in having choices, in having an environment that allowed me to dream, and granted me the means at various key stages to fulfill those dreams.

BPO CONSULTANT
The day Spectramind got its first customer, it brought us somebody who could pay the bills. It meant a cash break and not much more than that; it meant that we did not have to dig into our reserves from then on. We partied with chai and samosas. The deal was small, but it was a great moment of validation for me and my team.

CHAIRMAN, BAJAJ AUTO
The saddest moment of my life has also been the most empowering. When my father passed away in 1972, I was just 34. He taught me more than Harvard did. That grievous personal loss8212;also a great business loss8212;made me grow up, and rise to the occasion.
