Stolen Hearts: Sterling late night

Can two young people, simple near stupid, seemingly normal but below average, find happiness like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in today8217;s unfeeling, dog-eat-dog world? Stolen Hearts makes a brave effort to show that it is still possible.

Frank Denis Leary is a petty thief commissioned by his dimwitted cousin to steal a Matisse painting and deliver it to a buyer in another town. So Frank does this with the help of Roz Sandra Bullock, his had-it-enough-with-him girl-friend who for one thing is a shade smarter than he is.

quot;You8217;re either a contractor or a thief, quot; she tells him as though asking him to choose. They are on the run and that8217;s one reason to stick together. May be the screenplay by Leary and Mike Armstrong is intended to give this Mr and Mrs Simple couple a taste of the high life; yachts, cocktail parties, the works. Even the prospect of Roz getting closer to art collector Evan Marsh Stephen Dillane seems to have the same purpose. But the love triangle is too contrived to be credible.

However, if you put your credibility on hold, as you must to sit through this film, and put up with the blundering Frank he can8217;t even put on his trousers without losing his balance and the laid-back good cop O8217;Malley Yaphet Kotto and his largesse, you may even find the light at the end of the tunnel. But that8217;s the big if8217; and even the up-and-coming Bullock can8217;t salvage this pathetic film.
