Cool and classic, get ready for a rocking PecFest

It cannot get bigger and better than this. An expected footfall of 25,000 students, 75 universities and 200 colleges. Punjab Engineering Colleges Fest is on a roll. Already four months into the preparations, the fest will have everything from cultural calls, technical treats and literary bites.

Seeing a sizeable addition in the number of events this year, Apurv Devgan, event manager and a final year mechanical engineering students point to the paint ball challenge as the highlight. As he hands over this year8217;s marketing brochure and formally launches the mascot 8211; -a squirrel on a skateboard, he explains how the 8220;squirrel stands their undying enthusiasm and determination to never give up.8221; 8220;We call it Sira. It is synonymous with energy, exactly the levels students have shown,8221; quips Abhinav Kumar, member of the creative team adding how about 30 different mascots were made before finalizing on this one. And the skateboard? 8220;It8217;s 8216;Going High, Going Five,8221; chips in pal, Aseem Grover, who8217;s also part of the public relations team. The Open Hand too finds significane here for this is the fifth PecFest. 8220;It8217;s for the years of existence and for the five elements that enable basic survival.8221;

Conceptualized to rejoice the exuberance of youth and savour the brilliance of creativity, at the PECFest due on November 7,8 and 9, has nine teams 8212; discipline, event coordination, infrastructure, fine arts, hospitality, publicity, creativity, public relations and marketing. 8220;We8217;ve literally burnt the midnight oil. The event has been planned to perfection and now what is left is the implementation,8221; says Vinayak Talwar, a final year mechanical student, who tells us that delegations are going to Rajasthan and Mumbai to invite students for the first time. Also on the list of new introductions are solo dance, night-time quiz, street dance, beat boxing, war of DJs, tarot card reading, and a show of modified bikes, adds convener of the fest Gurinder Pal Singh.

From a mere Rs 3 lakh, the budget too has ballooned to Rs 30 lakh. 8220;This is going to be the perfect melting pot of interaction, competition and evolution,8221; Dr Manoj Dutta, Director, PEC, sums it aptly.
