Chennai, June 18: Former Union Minister and Lok Shakthi leader Ramakrishna Hegde on Friday announced that he had begun the process of `retiring from politics.’

Inaugurating the Chennai Metropolis Hindi Prachar Sammelan, Hegde said he would devote his time for `useful and constructive’ work.

“Present-day politicians have no idea about national service and they enter politics for selfish reasons,” Hegde said adding that people like him would certainly like to keep off from `such murky and dirty politics.’

He pointed out that no field was free from corruption and held politicians responsible for the widespread corruption.

He said the three-language formula of Jawaharlal Nehru was the best formula which would not hurt the feelings or the freedom and unity of the country.

“People in charge of Hindi publications and Hindi Sahitya Sammelan should make the people understand that learning Hindi is an additional advantage. English cannot serve as a link language permanently in India. At the same time, nobody should get the idea that Hindi is being imposed on them,” he said.

Hegde lauded the efforts of Mahila pracharaks in propagating Hindi.
