MDMK leader Vaiko can leave Chennai city limits during the pendency of the trial before the special court in Poonamallee with prior intimation to the investigating officer IO in the case, the Madras High Court said today.

In an interim order on an appeal filed by Vaiko challenging the conditions laid down by the Poonamallee POTA court while granting bail yesterday, a division bench comprising Justice V.S. Sirpurkar and Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla said today that Vaiko has to intimate the schedule of his programme to the IO before leaving the city and should not interfere with the day-to-day progress of the trial.

In one of the conditions for bail, designated POTA judge L. Rajendran had restrained Vaiko from leaving the city limits and Poonamallee, where the POTA court is located.The judge had said, 8216;8216;the petitioner shall not leave the city limits of Chennai without prior intimation to the investigating officer.8217;8217;

On the designated judge8217;s order that he should report to the designated court on all working days and to a metropolitan magistrate on holidays, the division bench said: 8216;8216;It will be sufficient for him to intimate his presence to the IO.8217;8217; The bench also removed the special court8217;s direction of filing an affidavit as a condition precedent to producing the sureties.

Meanwhile, DMK president M. Karunanidhi met Vaiko outside the POTA court today and told him to accept the bail conditions and come out on bail.
