CHANDIGARH, Sept 24: Issuing notice of motion to director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Dr B.K. Sharma, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked him to quot;show cause as to why proceedings for contempt be not drawnquot; for the alleged violation of court orders, dated June 1, regarding the petitioner8217;s promotion.

Pronouncing the directions in the open court on PGI technologist Santok Singh8217;s petition, Justice V.S. Aggarwal of the High Court, however, granted the respondent exemption from personal appearance quot;till further ordersquot;.

In his petition, Santok Singh had alleged that quot;notwithstanding the specific order of the High Court and the dismissal of the LPA against itquot;, the same had not been complied with.

Going into the background of the case, the counsel for the petitioner had stated that the High Court had directed the PGI to make regular promotion in accordance with law, to the post of assistant engineer technologist grade-I, within three months, quot;considering only those employees who were eligible on the date when the post fell vacantquot;.

The PGI, the counsel had added, was also quot;directed to pay the petitioner a salary of higher post with effect from the date when he worked against that post after deducting the amount paid to himquot;.
