8216;8216;Better break up with the Indian National Lok Dal INLD. We are ready to contest all the 10 seats.8217;8217; This ringing message seems to have been conveyed by the Haryana BJP to party President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who lent his patient ears to the state BJP Election Core Committee for about one-and-a-half hours today.
It may not be music to the ears of the INLD, which is ruling the state with the support of the BJP, but not a single member spoke for the alliance. Small wonder then that the BJP made no attempt to convene a joint meeting with the INLD for the purpose.
Flanked by organising secretaries Ram Pyare Pandey and Sanjay Joshi, Naidu listened to the outburst of state leaders against CM Om Prakash Chautala and sized up their enthusiasm to contest all the ten seats on their own. This left Naidu with little option but to say that no decision on continuing alliance with Chautala had been taken. Only recently, Naidu had ruled in favour of the alliance, saying, 8216;8216;Chautala is an ally8217;8217;.
All five BJP Lok Sabha MPs, including Union Minister of State for Home I.D. Swami, were present at the meeting. Ganeshi Lal, state unit chief, Krishan Pal Gujjar, leader of the BJP legislature party, treasurer Gian Chand Gupta and other members of the state unit said that the state was swaying on a BJP wave and it hardly needed any support to wade through the electoral waters.
8216;8216;Our stand is clear and unambiguous. We should contest all the ten seats. The BJP lotus is all set to bloom in the state. I hope the party president would give weightage to our opinion,8217;8217; Ganeshi Lal told The Indian Express.
Sources said former minister Ram Bilas Sharma even accused the INLD of defeating BJP candidates in the last Assembly polls.
Both parties had contested the last Lok Sabha elections with five seats each.
8216;8216;We have only presented the real picture to the high command. No category of residents of the state is happy with the Chautala government, may it be the employees, traders or farmers. The small favours now being extended to the people would not befool them. This time it will be better to contest all seats on our own,8217;8217; remarked Krishan Pal Gujjar.
No decision yet on continuing tie-up: Venkaiah
