India and Pakistan have agreed to continue their four-year-old ceasefire. The decision was announced in a joint statement after a meeting on confidence building measures CBMs here on Thursday.

The meeting on CBMs to strengthen ties between the two countries also focused on streamlining the process for early repatriation of people who cross the border inadvertently.

8220;Consultations continued with an aim of strengthening the ongoing process of confidence building in the conventional field,8221; said a joint statement issued after the talks.

The fourth round of the talks being held under the Composite Dialogue Process saw the two sides reiterate their commitment to the ceasefire along the Line of Control that has held since December 2003. Implementation of existing CBMs like movement of people and goods across the border was reviewed. The two sides also discussed prevention of incidents in the maritime area between the two countries. The Indian side was led by T C A Raghavan, Joint Secretary Pakistan in the Ministry of External Affairs while the Pakistani delegation was headed by Aziz Ahmed Choudhary, Director General South Asia in the Foreign Ministry.

On Friday, India and Pakistan will discuss Nuclear CBMs.
