Sourav Ganguly may have propelled the Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling three-wicket win on Sunday by scoring a stunning 86 at the Eden Gardens, but Yuvraj Singh refused to admit that his team was done in by the former Indian skipper’s blazing knock. Instead, the Kings XI Punjab skipper Yuvraj credited Umar Gul for his all-round heroics, and went as far as stating that it wasn’t Ganguly who made the difference. Asked if Ganguly’s 53-ball whirlwind knock changed the course of the match, Yuvraj shot back sharply, saying: “No, I think Gul made the difference with his aggressive shots.”

The Pakistani fast bowler picked up the Man of the Match award, as he took four crucial wickets conceding only 23 runs and swung the match back in Kolkata’s favour with a hard-hitting 10-ball 24, that proved damaging.

With the hosts needing an improbable 70 to win off five overs, Gul started the onslaught on the Kings XI bowlers, smashing two consecutive sixes off James Hopes, and inspired Ganguly to finish off the 175-run chase in style.

The flamboyant Kings XI captain went on to lament that the sudden run-riot in the last four overs of the game robbed the visitors of a victory.

“The last four overs cost us the match here, too many runs were scored in that period, and it went against us. Before that, we had things under control,” Yuvraj said.
