Guards get two days to explain absence

VADODARA, Aug 16: The four-member committee looking into the recent case of staircase-burning at the M S University8217;s Faculty of Arts has given two days to the security guards to explain their absence at the time of the incident.

Speaking to Express Newsline, president of the Baroda University Staff Association BUSA Prataprao Bhoite and one of the committee members said, 8220;Two university guards and one member of the vigilance squad were called during the interrogation on Monday and have been asked to submit an explanation in written by Wednesday.8221;

Bhoite said that earlier, during a preliminary inquiry, the guards had reportedly replied that they were not aware of such an incident and it was only the next day through media reports that they learnt of such an incident in the faculty.

8220;The suspension of the two guards is just a primary action and it can8217;t be a solution to the damage which has already been done,8221; said Bhoite. Another committee member said that the incident had occurred at a time when at least three guards were supposed to be on duty.
