
MONTREAL, August 19: At a time when brash teenagers are attracting much of the spotlight in women8217;s tennis, Steffi Graf proved yesterday in the Du Maurier Canadian Open tennis tournament that she isn8217;t finished yet.
Graf, 29, hampered by injuries in the last year, showed flashes of brilliance in her second-round match against Spain8217;s Virginia Ruano-Pascual, needing only 41 minutes for a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
In a battle of veterans earlier on centre court, 13th-seeded Mary Pierce of France was soundly beaten by American Mary Joe Fernandez 6-1, 6-1.
The other seed to fall on the second day was Lisa Raymond. The 17th-ranked American was ousted by countrywoman Corina Moriaru in three sets.
