Narain Karthikeyan assured that the British Grand Prix will be held on Sunday as scheduled even as concerns grew following the terrorist attacks in central London today.

‘‘There is no worry about the GP. It will go on as per schedule,’’ he told The Indian Express speaking from Silverstone. He said the venue — the base of Team Jordan — situated about 120 kms from London was not at all affected, though the turnout was low.

But the Becketts Complex bore a deserted look. ‘‘That’s because the transport system was thrown out of gear and even journalists called up to say that they cannot make it today,’’ said Narain.

Since the blasts, everyone was subjected to strict security checking. ‘‘In fact, every one was being checked at several points, including Ferrari technical chief Ross Brawn. I’ve never seen so much security,’’ said the Indian. The atmosphere, according to Narain, was dull. ‘‘Silverstone is a happening place. Racing is part of British culture and the build up to the race is something one must see to believe it.’’

Though well-established security measures were in place, Narain said the race was a sell-out and the organisers expected a full house.
