The state government is going to overhaul the entire VIP security system to ensure that incidents like the landmine blast in Salboni on Sunday are not repeated.

The pilot car of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjees8217;s convoy was damaged in the blast. Bhattacharjee, along with Union Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertiliser Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Minister of State for Steel Jitin Prasad had gone to Salboni to attend the foundation ceremony of Jindal Group8217;s steel manufacturing unit. Six policemen were injured in the blast.

8220;The incident has proved that the degree of threat, as well as its reach has increased significantly and we have to act according to that. We have held several meetings and decided that the entire security system has to be upgraded so that this kind of incident does not happen again,8221; Director General of Police DGP A B Vohra said on Tuesday. The measures to be introduced include purchasing new mine detectors and other electronic devices.

The DGP, who once again admitted that there was a security lapse on Sunday, said nobody will be spared if found guilty of dereliction of duty.

8220;I have already said that it was a clear case of security lapse. We have all the equipment to detect such kind of devices. We have suspended three police personnel and if we find anyone else responsible, we will take action against him, regardless of the position he is in,8221; Vohra added. He admitted the police have not yet been able to ascertain which group was behind the incident. 8220;It looks like some Left wing extremist group was behind the explosion. But till the investigation is over, we cannot say anything,8221; the DGP added. Vohra further said he was not sure who was the target of the miscreants. 8220;There were so many people in the convoy. It could have been anybody,8221; he added.
