A 4-year-old child died after 10-12 hollow bricks fell on a temporary shed in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Manushree. The child was staying with her mother, Madhu, and two siblings, Shriyan, 6, and Shekar, 5, at a temporary shed in Chinnappana Halli under HAL police limits.
The incident took place around 3 pm when the hollow bricks from an under-construction building fell on the asbestos sheet of the temporary shed. Manushree suffered critical injuries. Other occupants in the house, Shriyan, Shekar and one Mamatha, 30, escaped with injuries.
Soon after, Manushree was shifted to Jeevika hospital, where doctors declared she was “brought dead”. The probe revealed that a person named Srinivasulu was constructing a house without taking due safety measures, which led to the fall of hollow bricks. A police officer said that “the hollow bricks were stored on the fourth floor of the building to construct walls.”
Madhu is a native of Bhoragi village in Sindagi taluk of Vijayapura district, and is the primary earner of her family since the death of her husband Ramesh. She works as a labourer in Bengaluru city.
