
CHENNAI, July 18: The Tamil Nadu Government has terminated the contracts awarded to four persons for supplying eggs to noon meal centres in the state, following reports from districts that several children had fallen sick after eating these eggs.
A press release here said children in some parts of Thanjavur, Virudunagar, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli had started vomiting after consuming eggs supplied by these contractors. Enquiries revealed that these eggs were rotten, the release said. It said the Tamil Nadu poultry development corporation had been entrusted the task of supplying eggs in these districts. The corporation had also been instructed to check the eggs supplied by private contractors, it said.
