JALANDHAR, Dec 2: Christians who have decided to observe December 4 as National Protest Day against atrocities against the community, alleged that the talk of a uniform civil code seemed to be a prelude to eliminate religious practices of the minorities.
Addressing a press conference here, Father Dr Kurien, Rector, Trinity College, Jalandhar said there had been more than 60 incidents of atrocities against the Christians in the country this year. He said in 1997-98, there were 113 incidents of atrocities against the community while in the period between 1964 to 1996 there were just 48 incidents.
Expressing concern over the incidents of rape of nuns in Madhya Pradesh and demolition of their religious places, Father Kurien alleged that the ruling government lacked the will to prevent such atrocities on the Christians.
