A history-sheeter Sohail Suleiman Shaikh 30 was beheaded by a gang of five persons in Pune on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Four accused, including a minor, were arrested after a person who saw them moving with the victim8217;s head informed the police. The police said that Sohail was murdered following a previous rivalry.

The accused were identified as Shabbir Shamshuddin Shaikh 31, Javed Rizwan Shaikh 22, both from Kondhwa, Abdul Gani Khan 25 of Ghorpade Peth and a 15-year-old boy from Lohiya Nagar. The fifth accomplice is absconding. All the accused are history sheeters.

According to the police, Sohail Shaikh was arrested in December 2004 in connection with the murder of Faiyyaz Shaikh near Fashion Street in Pune Camp.

The court had recently acquitted him in the case. Faiyyaz was a close friend of the Shabbir. When Sohail was aquitted, it enraged Shabbir who decided to take revenge.

A team of Wanowrie police comprising senior police inspector Shahaji Patil, inspector R B Gaikar, assistant inspector Shrikant Pingale, hawaldar J V Qazi, constables Pradeep Gurav, Pradeep Shitole and Sumedh Kamble launched quick search operation and nabbed the accused near Noble Hospital in Kondhwa around 2.30 am.
