CHANDIGARH, Feb 4: Notwithstanding, the examination fear, the response was bit encouraging during the trials held to select outstanding sportswomen from northern states including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, for Sports Authority of India (SAI), Training Centre at Sector 18.

The trials are being held in athletics, basketball, volleyball and hockey in the age group of 14 to 19 years.

Since some of the participants could not reach the venue in the morning the selection procedure got underway in the afternoon session.

General tests were carried out to judged the efficiency of the players who had reported for the trials.

Skill test and viva would be held tomorrow.

Some of the tests conducted today were 800-metre run to judge the endurance of the player while vertical jump and medicine ball throw trials held were to judge strength and flexibility of the participants.

Shuttle run and 30 metres sprint were also part of the selection trials.

Around 20 players reported for hockey while more than ten players got their names registered for athletic.

In basketball 15 cagers came for trials.
