Goa-born cop awarded MBE

A Goa-born chief inspector of police has been awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire MBE by Queen Elizabeth for his long and distinguished career in the service.

Randy Otter, 50, was born in Goa and came to Britain in 1969. In November 1976, he joined the British Transport Police with a job at the Southampton docks as a constable. Nicknamed 8220;the quiet man8221; by his friends and colleagues, Otter later moved to the railways at London Paddington as a sergeant.

After working in the mobile support unit that also covered the Euston station, he became an inspector at London8217;s Victoria station, before being appointed as a chief inspector. The MBE is awarded for achievement or service in and to the community of a responsible kind which is outstanding in its field.
