
Kabul airport under attack
KABUL: Three rockets fired by anti-Taliban forces struck the Afghan capital8217;s airport district today causing however no damage or casualties, witnesses said. The first rocket slammed into the vast military and civilian airport complex early in the morning. The second rocket hit the same part of the airport sending a shock wave across the city. The third attack overshot the airport8217;s southern perimeter and landed in a wheat field.
Benazir warrant
ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani court today withdrew the non-bailable arrest warrant against former premier Benazir Bhutto and ordered the Pakistan People8217;s Party PPP leader to deposit her passport and submit a surety bond of Rs one crore. The orders were issued by the Sindh Ehtesab accountability bench judge, Ghous Muhammad, after Benazir appeared before him in Karachi in connection with the PIA recruitment case.
Troubled Yeltsin
MOSCOW: Russia8217;s Communists said today they had delayed their parliamentary bidto impeach President Boris Yeltsin and the President8217;s spokesman dismissed their plans as 8220;games and firecrackers8221;. 8220;The docluments are still in the works. This means the procedure will not go ahead before the week after next,8221; Communist deputy Sergei Reshulsky said.
Bangla cyclone
DHAKA: Rescuers searched today for nearly 100 fishermen reported missing since a cyclone hit Bang-ladesh8217;s southeastern coast, official said. More than one million villagers were evacuated from the region before the storm hit land Wednesday.
