Give Punjabi first language status

CHANDIGARH, Sept 17: quot;Punjabi language should be given the first language statusquot;, demanded members of Chandigarh chapter of SAD, in a meeting with various academicians and researchers of Punjabi literature here today. The members also discussed that quot;Punjabi language was given a lukewarm status in Chandigarhquot;. They demanded that the year 2000 be declared as quot;Punjabi Bhasha Yearquot;. A delegation of the members met Governor Lt Gen B.K.N. Chibber retd to present a memorandum of their demands.
