NEW DELHI, MARCH 14: Medium-pacer Sanjay Gill8217;s spell of three for 18 and Ravi Sehgal8217;s unbeaten 44 helped defending champions Collage Group beat Malavi Club in a group A league match at the Roshanara Pepsi Cup cricket tournament at the Roshanara ground here today.

Electing to bat, Collage Group steadied the early loss to score 192 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 45 overs. There were immensely helped by the number of extras 45, thanks to some inept bowling by Malayvia bowlers, who conceded 24 wides.

Apart from Sehgal8217;s knock, Gautam Vadhera made 39. Left-arm spinner Kartar Nath was the most successful wicket-tacker, claiming three for 37 while Satish Salwan captured two.

In reply, Malviya were bowled out for 176 in 43.3 overs with Gill delivering the initial blows. Sumeet Tomar, who was unnecesarily run out, topscord with 39 while Raj Kapoor 28 and opener Rakesh Sharma 21 were the other contributors.

National selector Madan Lal inaugurated the tournament.

Brief scores: Collage Group 192 for 9: G. Vadhera 39, Ravi Sehgal 44 not out, Kartar Nath 3 for 37, Satish Salwan 2 for 16 bt Malviya Club 176: Rakesh Sharma 21, Sumeet Tomar 39, Raj Kapoor 28, Sanjay Gill 3 for 18.
