June 13: With no deaths being reported from the municipal hospitals today the number of gastro-enteritis victims remained at seven. The total number of patients being treated in the 19 civic hospitals was 106 with 30 new cases having been admitted on June 12.However, there are 5100 malaria cases under treatment at the various civic hospitals till date. According to the executive health officer Dr Alka Karande, of the 2,30,000 cases tested 2.5 per cent were sputum positive which is a fall from the corresponding percentage last year. There have been five deaths since January till date due to malaria, she said.People should take all precautions against contaminated water and exercise good hygiene during monsoon, she advised. But she admitted this was not possible in slum areas due to lack of basic infrastructure.
