Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly will auction one of his bats at Siliguri on Wednesday for the aid of two cancer patients, Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya said today.

“We are expecting at least Rs 7 lakh from the auction,” Bhattcharya told newsmen here. The proceeds from the auction would be used for funding the treatment of four-year-old Raj Banerjee and Khokan Das (18), both suffering from cancer, he said.

Along with Ganguly, his team-mates Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh, would also be present at the auction.

Incidentally, the Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Railways is scheduled to begin in Siliguri from November 27. Bhattacharya said that a statue of legendary Mohun Bagan footballer Gostho Pal would be unveiled in Siliguri town on that day by Sailen Manna.
